Brave New World: Microchipped Children

As a science fiction fan, I have read my share of books dealing with a dystopian future where individualism is lost, as technology increases the speed of an already hectic fast-paced future.  In Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley, the population is controlled through conditioning and an anti-depressant drug.  People are engineered in artificial wombs, and the family construct is largely gone.  Children are raised by the state through indoctrination programs and methods of conditioning while one sleeps.  The citizenry are members of an assembly line, homogeneous and designed to act in predictable manners.  Brave New World was originally published in 1932, before the discovery of DNA and before the rise of technology as we know it today, so genetic engineering and implants are not in the book, but would be, I believe, had Huxley known of the scientific breakthroughs peeking around the corner of the near-future.

Biblical text refers to a mark of the beast.  As technology has marched forward, Christians have questioned, "Is the mark simply a mark, or something more?  Could it be a computer chip embedded just under the skin?"

If a tyrannical society wanted to keep a close eye on its subjects, would microchipping its citizens be the way to do it?  We've gotten to the point, in our own version of a brave new world, of government being able to follow our every movement through our devices (phones, tablets, watches), why not through a GPS device or a microchip (tagged like an animal) slipped under our skin?

The thing is, we would never willingly give in to tyranny if we knew what it was.  As a character on the television program "Big Bang Theory" named Rajesh quips after Dr. Sheldon Cooper says "your doom" after a bully asks from behind his door, "who is it?", "Nobody opens the door to their doom."

We do open the door to our doom, but we do so when we are convinced it is not our doom, but just another advancement in the progress of human evolution. . .

Which brings us to the normalization of microchipping.  We are leery of the idea, but our children are not, and that is why our children will definitely be microchipped, or at least that is what a writer says after viewing a report by NBC News.

"It's not a matter of if it will happen, but when."

The microchipping will become a normal part of our lives because we seek peace and safety in a world that is rapidly becoming more dangerous.  We want to make sure our children are safe, and we are being told that microchips are the way to ensure that safety.

In the article regarding the possibility of microchipping, a mother is quoted as saying, "Every parent’s nightmare [is] when you can’t find your child...If it’ll save my kid, there’s no stuff that’s too extreme.  Micro-chipping would be an extra layer of protection, if something bad does happen."

The whole thing reminds me of a verse in the Bible.

1 Thessalonians 5:3 KJV - For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

If parents can find their children as a result of the microchipping, so can government.  Then, once everyone is microchipped, we must ask ourselves how much liberty do we truly have?

Those who give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. - Benjamin Franklin.
But, the propaganda is being effectively put out there. . .

Electronics expert Stuart Lipoff said that microchipping children is “safe and inevitable.”

“People should be aware that testing is being done right now. The military is not only testing this out, but already utilizes its properties. It’s not a matter of if it will happen, but when.”

Lipoff also told NBC that people shouldn’t be concerned about “big brother” tracking their children – this technology will only be used for “safety and convenience.”

Remember, this is the same government who told us that direct taxation was to be temporary, the NSA only listens in on data tied to terrorism based on an algorithm, and everything else they do to compromise your liberty "is for your the common good."

Must I return our thinking back to the dystopian novels by science fiction writers?

Ah, but it gets even more worrisome.  Not only can, and will, the technology be used by government to track its citizens, but think about this during our current "mandatory vaccination" era.  Do we know exactly what is being put into our child’s body, if we were to allow microchipping?  How extensive will the technology be?  Who will have access to the data?

Convenience and safety, if we are to be students of history, will quickly downward spiral into authoritarian tyranny.

But hey, who cares if they enslave all of humanity, as long as your child is safe, right?

Aldous Huxley wondered in Brave New World at what point in history will your child cease to be your child.  Microchipping now will only lead to them becoming children of the state.

Individual liberty is at stake, and most who read this will say, "Ah, Doug, aren't you being too much of an alarmist?"  Others will recognize the alarming truth.
